This would have to go down as one of my favorite matches of all time, including my playing days. The weather was perfect. The crowd was appreciative of the contest. The sides were both primed and respectful for and of the event. To see these kids behave on a sporting field better than many adults I have encountered was personally inspiring. We are doing something right. Watch the Cheshire-Simsbury rivalry in the coming years. They will set the bar for Connecticut rugby. The coaching staffs are incredibly well versed and professional. They transmit that to the kids who, in return, view the contest with a calm professionalism. It was an absolute joy to referee and a thing of beauty for the spectators to behold.
Oh yes, there was a match. It was characterized by hard hitting, agressive play on both sides. Clean hits and good ball cycling characterized open play. Cheshire has been a master at dummying and skip passing all season. They used this well to catch Simsbury off guard many times. Ultimately Simsbury muscled through for a few more tries but the finesse on the Cheshire side continues to ensure that they are a force to be reckoned with. Kudos to both coaching staffs.
